Pressure leaching of copper sulphide from nickel refining: Initial experiments for valorisation

Copper sulphide rich leach residue from nickel refining is a marketable product and may be treated by smelting. In looking for another technology its valorisation, the raw material was characterised suitability of medium-temperature sulphate-based pressure leaching tested this purpose. The contained 58% copper carried in covellite oxides. Using favourable conditions, about two hours needed completion leaching. extraction increased to over 99% with increasing oxidation sulphate (92.3–99.8%) at 165 °C, low final acidity (20–26 g/L). these residual least acid consumption 220–230 kg/t solids. extent formation appeared depend on temperature, agitation. Sulphur agglomeration scale occurred between 125 145 °C. Iron hydrolysis during shown remove iron solution levels acceptable electrowinning. noble metals remain residue. addition, significant portions impurities were released into solution. dissolved could subjected direct recovery sold as by-product precious refinery.
